Linen Wallet: A Self Custody Wallet for Your Crypto

Linen wallet gives you full control over your crypto assets, without a company standing between you and your funds. As a self custody wallet, Linen keeps you in charge of your keys, your assets, and every transaction you approve.

The linen app works like any other crypto wallet on the surface, but the model underneath is different. Nothing about your balance depends on a company staying in business, keeping good security practices, or even existing tomorrow. That distinction matters more over time, since long term plans should not rest on a third party's stability.

What Is Linen?

Linen started with a team that also built loanscan. That earlier tool tracked lending and borrowing rates across decentralized finance.

That background shaped how Linen approaches wallets. The focus stays on transparency, built for people who already understand why self custody matters.

The app supports a wide range of digital assets, from major tokens to smaller project-specific coins. You manage all of them from a single dashboard, without switching between separate apps for different chains. That range matters for anyone holding more than one type of crypto asset.

Self Custody vs. Financial Institutions

Traditional financial institutions and a typical crypto exchange both work the same basic way. You deposit funds, they hold custody, and you trust them to keep records accurate and stay solvent.

A self custody crypto wallet flips that model. Linen never holds your funds or asks for personal information beyond what a normal account needs. It also never requires a credit card or bank connection just to use the wallet.

Access to your wallet depends entirely on you. No support ticket, password reset, or company decision can grant someone else entry, which also means no one else can lock you out. Compare that to a frozen bank account or a suspended exchange login. In either case, one internal decision can cut off access.

Self Custodial Wallet: How Your Keys Stay Safe

Every self custodial wallet manages the balance between convenience and security differently. Linen handles that balance through a few core choices:

  • Keys generated and stored locally, never on a company server
  • Optional integration with a hardware wallet for larger balances
  • Support for hardware devices from major manufacturers
  • A clear warning before any transaction involving a new or unfamiliar contract
  • No default connection to your personal information or identity

Some hardware devices work as a physical device you plug in only when signing a transaction. This keeps your keys offline the rest of the time.

A wallet connected to the internet around the clock carries more exposure. Pairing Linen with cold storage makes sense for larger, long term holdings.

Recovery Phrase: Your 24 Words

Setting up Linen generates a recovery phrase made of 24 words. That phrase serves as the only backup for your account. Linen does not retain a copy anywhere.

Write the phrase down on paper and store it somewhere safe. Never type it into a website or share it with anyone claiming to offer support. Losing access to those 24 words, without a backup, means losing access to your funds permanently.

Crypto Self Custody in Everyday Use

Crypto self custody used to mean complicated setups and command-line tools. Linen brings that same control into a normal mobile app:

  • Send and receive tokens with a standard wallet address
  • Connect to decentralized apps directly from your phone
  • Track balances across multiple chains in one place
  • Swap assets without leaving the app

The wallet offers this level of control without asking you to trust a third party with custody.

A Note on Spelling

The search term "self-custuody wallet" appears often, despite being a misspelling of self-custody. Readers who arrive here through that search term are in the right place, since Linen addresses the same concept either way.

Important Information

This content is for general information only and is not investment advice. Nothing here should be treated as a recommendation to buy, hold, or sell any crypto assets. Evaluate your own goals and risk tolerance before making decisions.

Self custody carries real responsibility. Losing your recovery phrase, sending funds to the wrong address, or approving a malicious transaction can all result in permanent loss. No company can reverse the outcome.

Get Started With Linen

Download the linen app, generate your recovery phrase, and move your crypto assets somewhere only you control. You might be new to crypto self custody, or already comfortable managing your own keys. Either way, Linen keeps the process simple from setup onward.

FAQ

Linen is a wallet that uses Safe smart contracts as its core. The same custody solution that protects over $35b worth of crypto assets for the large crypto asset holders. In the current implementation Linen users protect their assets with 3 private keys and 2 of 3 keys are required to access the wallet. You lose one? You can still access your wallet. Someone steals one? They still can't access it. This is what makes Linen unique. Check out this article to learn more about Linen wallet security.

We are serious about wallet security. Initial wallet setup is the following and requires up to 5 factors of authentication (5FA):

·
Email verification
·
Phone number verification
·
Saving 1 of 3 keys to your cloud drive
·
Phone operating system passcode and biometry (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint)
·
Linen Wallet app 6 digit passcode

Once you are past the initial wallet app set up, you will need 3 factors of authentication (3FA) to make transactions using the Linen app:

·
Phone operating system passcode and biometry (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint)
·
Linen app 6 digit passcode
·
Access to the key stored in your cloud drive

Linen is a user self-custody multi-key wallet. It means that the company behind Linen does not store any asset or have the 2 required keys to access user assets. In the current implementation users on iOS (coming soon on Android) have access to 2 of the 3 keys required to access their wallet and make transactions. Suppose the app is not available in App Store or Google Play. In that case, users can access Linen wallet via third party interfaces like the Safe or others. We call this a Sovereign Mode. Here is an instruction on how to access Linen wallet from third-party interfaces.

Linen focuses entirely on self custody. Your keys stay with you, and the app never holds custody of your crypto assets at any point.

A hardware wallet is not required. Linen works as a standalone mobile app. Pairing it with a physical device adds extra protection for larger balances.

Recovery becomes impossible without that phrase. Linen cannot restore access, since the company never stores a copy of your recovery phrase.

Setting up a self custody crypto wallet does not require personal information beyond what the app needs to function. That differs from opening an account with a bank or a crypto exchange.

Yes. Linen supports connections to popular hardware devices. You can sign transactions on a physical device while managing everything in the linen app.
